Diameter is measured straight across the inside of a ring; circumference is around your finger. Need a size outside this range? See the full ring size chart.

How to measure a man's ring size

The quickest accurate way is to match a ring that already fits: lay it on the on-screen sizer or the circles in the printable ring sizer (choose "Men's sizes"). No ring? Use the printable finger strip, which covers every size from US 1 to 17.

  1. Measure the finger the ring will be worn on, on the same hand.
  2. Measure at the end of the day, when your hands are warm. Fingers are smaller in the cold and in the morning.
  3. Measure the base of the finger, then the knuckle. If the knuckle is much larger, choose a size between the two, so the ring goes over the knuckle without spinning loosely.
  4. Measure three times. If you get two different sizes, go with the larger one.

Wide bands fit tighter

Men's rings are often wider than women's, and width changes fit. A 2 mm band and an 8 mm band in the same size do not feel the same: the wide one covers more of the finger, including the part that swells. Many jewellers suggest a quarter to half size larger for bands of about 6 mm and up. A comfort-fit band, rounded on the inside, can go the other way. When a shop gives advice for a specific ring, follow it.

Rings that cannot be resized

Gold, silver and platinum bands can usually be resized by a jeweller. Tungsten carbide cannot be resized at all, and titanium, ceramic and many patterned or engraved bands are hard to resize. For those, the size you order is the size you get, so it is worth checking with a jeweller's metal sizer, or buying a cheap reusable ring sizer, before you order.

Men's sizes in other countries

UK and Australian sizes are letters; past Z they continue as Z+1, Z+2 and so on, which matters for larger men's sizes. EU sizes are the circumference in mm. A US 10 is about UK T½ and EU 62. For Japanese, Swiss and Brazilian sizes, use the ring size converter.

Common questions

How do I find my ring size as a man?
The same way as anyone: measure around the base of the finger with a paper strip, or match a ring that already fits. Men's knuckles are often much wider than the base of the finger, so make sure the size you choose will slide over the knuckle.
Do men need a bigger size for a wide band?
Often, yes. A wide band (about 6 mm and up) touches more skin and feels tighter than a thin ring of the same size. Many jewellers suggest going a quarter to half size up for wide bands. Comfort-fit bands, which are rounded inside, can feel looser, so check the jeweller's advice for the exact ring.
Can tungsten or titanium rings be resized?
Usually not. Tungsten carbide cannot be resized at all, and titanium and ceramic rings are very hard to resize. For these, measure carefully, ideally with a jeweller's metal sizer, and check the shop's exchange policy before you buy.
Which hand and finger should I measure?
Measure the exact finger the ring will go on, on the same hand. Your dominant hand is often slightly larger. A wedding band is usually worn on the left ring finger in the US and UK, and on the right in many other countries.
